The COURIERS GO GREEN project has proudly announced the release of its latest newsletter. The newsletter, available on the project’s website at www.green-courier.eu, details significant advancements in the initiative’s efforts to promote environmental sustainability in the courier and logistics industry. It offers an in-depth look at the project’s recent developments and future plans.
One of the key highlights of the newsletter is the introduction of the “Measure my Green Readiness” Self-Assessment Tool (SAT), a groundbreaking resource designed to help companies in the logistics sector evaluate their carbon footprint. The SAT is based on the Global Logistics Emissions Council (GLEC) Framework v3, which was released in September 2023 and adheres to the ISO 14083:2023 standards. This tool enables businesses to transparently and consistently calculate greenhouse gas emissions across their freight transport and hub operations, aligning with global carbon accounting practices and facilitating reporting to organisations such as the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP).
The added value of the SAT lies in its comprehensive approach to emissions measurement. Unlike other tools that focus solely on individual consignments, the SAT provides a complete company-level analysis, encompassing direct, indirect, and other indirect emissions, categorised as Scopes 1, 2, and 3. This allows for a more holistic understanding of a company’s environmental impact and aids in the development of targeted strategies for reducing emissions intensity across different types of freight transport.
In addition to the SAT, the newsletter outlines the scope of the Couriers Go Green Syllabus, which forms the foundation of the Couriers Go Green Course (Educational Package). This syllabus was meticulously developed following a Catalogue of Requirements that assessed the needs of higher education, training programs, and research projects. It aims to educate and train stakeholders in last-mile freight transport, including courier, postal, and delivery services, public authorities, and consultants involved in transport, logistics, climate, and environmental strategies.
The syllabus is one of the project’s main results and will be digitised for easy online access. The upcoming Couriers Go Green Course will leverage openly accessible content and materials to foster knowledge sharing and consensus-building among stakeholders regarding the green transition. The effectiveness of the course will be tested, with results to be shared in the forthcoming 4th Newsletter. Stakeholders and interested parties are encouraged to stay tuned and follow the project’s progress on social media at @Couriers Go Green.
